This garlic cheddar drop biscuits recipe is a long-time favorite. What sets these apart is their flaky texture and perfectly savory flavor. The best part: the dough comes together in one bowl, making these biscuits quick and simple to prepare.

Best Drop Biscuits Recipe
These are not just ordinary garlic cheddar biscuits — they are fresh, flaky drop biscuits loaded with cheddar and garlic. They work for breakfast and brunch, but are equally welcome at lunch or dinner. The combination of tender, buttery dough with sharp cheddar and fresh garlic makes them irresistible. Because the dough is mixed in one bowl, they’re an easy go-to when you want a flavorful bread side without fuss.

Tips on Making Drop Biscuits
- Use a medium cookie scoop for consistent biscuit sizes. Even sizes bake uniformly and give a predictable texture.
- The medium scoop holds about 2 tablespoons of raw dough — a good size for quick, even baking.
- Smaller biscuits bake faster and develop a crisp exterior with a tender, flaky center. If you prefer larger drop biscuits, flatten them slightly so they cook through.
- Try different melting cheeses to vary flavor — use your favorite cheddar, a mix of cheeses, or whatever you have on hand.

Best Garlic Biscuits for Breakfast and Brunch
Fresh from the oven, the aroma of garlic and melted cheese fills the kitchen and makes them hard to resist. Serve them in place of dinner rolls for a memorable switch — they pair well with many mains and are satisfying enough to feel like a part of the meal. We like to brush the baked biscuits with extra melted butter for added richness, but they’re delicious either way.

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cup (220 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) baking powder
- 1/4 cup (57 g) cold butter (1/2 stick), cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk , or 1/4 cup more if needed
- 1 cup (115 g) cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 teaspoons (7.5 ml) garlic powder
- 2 cloves garlic (optional), finely minced
- 1/4 cup (15 g) minced parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) black pepper
- melted butter for brushing after baking (optional)
Equipment
-
Parchment Paper (optional)
-
Medium Cookie Scoop
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

-
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder. Add cold butter and cut it into the flour with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

-
Make a well in the flour mixture and add the milk, cheddar, garlic powder, fresh garlic (if using), parsley, and black pepper. Stir until combined. If the dough seems too dry, add up to 1/4 cup more milk, a tablespoon at a time, until it holds together but is not wet.

-
Drop about 2 tablespoons of batter per biscuit using a medium cookie scoop onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a couple inches between each. If you don’t have a scoop, use two spoons to form drops.

-
Bake for 15–20 minutes or until the biscuits are lightly browned. Optionally brush with melted butter before serving.

These biscuits are excellent as party appetizers or game-day snacks. Their garlicky, cheesy flavor makes them a crowd-pleaser on any appetizer table.
Can you Air Fry These Biscuits?
Yes. Cooking times vary by model, so keep biscuits small for even cooking. Use about 2 tablespoons of dough per drop (medium cookie scoop). Air fry at 350°F for roughly 10 minutes, flip, then air fry another 8 minutes or until cooked through. If centers are slightly underdone, let them sit in the turned-off air fryer for 5 minutes; residual heat will finish them.
