It’s summer travel time — many of us are packing our bags and getting ready to hit the road!
When you’re traveling long haul with three kids, it’s all about the snacks.
I don’t know about you, but I prefer not to rely on airport or airline meals. I always pack a variety of healthy, travel-friendly snacks to keep everyone satisfied between stops.
This is my fail-proof list — ideal for road trips, boats, trains, and planes.
- Spiced makhana (fox nuts) and nut mix – light, crunchy and perfect for snacking while watching inflight entertainment.
- Whole-grain or artisanal crackers – better than heavy bread rolls or sugary cookies and great paired with spreads or tuna.
- Individually packed chia pudding – travels well and makes a light, nutritious snack or mini-meal.
- Boiled eggs – portable protein that pairs nicely with a little mustard or salt and pepper; great with crackers.
- Fresh fruit and vegetables – apples, carrots, cucumber sticks and other hardy produce are reliable, hydrating options.
- Trail mix – a classic combo of nuts, dried fruit and seeds. Add pretzels or a few dark chocolate pieces for variety.
- Dark chocolate rice cakes or thins – a lighter sweet treat many kids (and adults) enjoy.
- Tuna sachets or pouch tuna – easy, shelf-stable protein that keeps you fuller longer and is mess-free.
- Small dark chocolate bites – a modest chocolate fix to satisfy cravings without overindulging.
- Kid-friendly crackers – familiar, crunchy and easy to pack; a hit with picky eaters.
- Single-serve nut butter sachets – convenient, no-spoon spreads that pair well with fruit or crackers.
- Single-serve olives – savory, salty and travel-friendly for adults who enjoy a briny snack.
- Homemade bliss balls or energy bites – compact, nutritious and sweet enough to feel like a treat.
- Electrolyte sachets – helpful for replenishing fluids on long travel days and when flights or heat leave you dehydrated.
I hope this list helps you plan smarter snack packs. I’d love to hear your favorite travel snacks in the comments!
