Friday the 13th: Origins, Superstitions, and Cultural Impact

Dun dunn dunnnnnnnn.

It feels like a Friday the 13th. I can’t quite explain why, but today has that odd, slightly spooky energy that makes everything feel a bit off.

Here are a few things from my week:

1) I invented a comforting drink that I’ve been making every single day. It’s equal parts coffee, hot chocolate, and heavy cream. Judge if you must—I don’t care. It’s absolutely delicious and has made long hours of statistics work tolerable. Last night my husband and I gave it a name: Hot Chocoffee. I kind of like the ring of it.

2) On Monday a stranger wandered into my office asking for directions, and we ended up having a 30-minute conversation about big, fluffy dogs. He convinced me that I’m not exercising my dogs enough and encouraged more walks. My husband and I specifically got two dogs hoping they’d tire each other out by running circles in the yard, but I still felt guilty and have braved the cold twice this week for the sake of their health. At least they love the chill.

3) I turned in a take-home final last night, and now I’m compulsively checking my grades online to see if the professor has posted it yet. Patience is not my strong suit—I need to know my grade now.

4) I’ve been wearing fluffy, cozy, warm Christmas socks all week and I love them. They’ve made the cold more bearable. Yes, there’s more Hot Chocoffee in the background of this photo—socks and comfort go hand in hand.

5) I wanted to join I Wore Yoga Pants’ #backthatazzup linkup and instantly thought of a thousand songs to share. I was going to post “Timber,” which fits the theme well, but I decided on something different instead.

Happy Friday the 13th! Hope your day brings more cozy drinks and fewer spooky surprises.
